Ejemplos simples
Ejemplos contables singular:
There is a table in the house.
There isn’t an apples in the kitchen. (se usa an cuando la palabra tiene sonido vocálico)
Is there a car in the garage?
Ejemplos contables plural:
There are some chairs in the party.
There aren’t any pencils in the class.
Are there any chairs in the room?
Ejemplos incontables:
There is some wine in the table.
There isn’t any oil in the salat.
Is there any sugar in my milk?
Excepciones
Siempre se utiliza «some» en ofrecimientos y peticiones en los que esperamos una respuesta afirmativa, aunque sean oraciones interrogativas:
«Would you like some coffee?» «Yes, please» (ofrecimiento)
«Can I have some water, please?» (petición)

No puede ser: a owl, porque para poder poner «A», la palabra que sigue debe empezar con una consonante, no con vocal.
No puede ser: «some» apple, porque está hablando en singular (apple) y es contable, por lo tanto, lo correcto sería: there is «an» apple in the lunch.
